16.  The Democratic Book 1936 with President Franklin D. Roosevelt Signature

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945), often referred to by his initials FDR, was the thirty-second President of the United States. Elected to four terms in office, he served from 1933 to 1945, and is the only U.S. president to have served more than two terms. A central figure of the 20th century during a time of worldwide economic crisis and world war, he has consistently been ranked as one of the three greatest U.S. presidents in scholarly surveys.

Democracy is not a static thing. It is an everlasting march. When our children grow up, they will still have problems to overcome. It is for us, however, manfully to set ourselves to the task of preparation for them so that to some degree the difficulties they must overcome may weigh upon them less heavily. I am confident that the people of the nation, having put their shoulders to the wheel, will build a better future for the children of the days to come.

                                - Franklin D. Roosevelt, The Democratic Book 1936

Splendid chronicle of the events of the 1936 Democratic National Convention. Includes President Roosevelt and Vice President Garner’s acceptance speeches, Chairman Farley’s opening speech and many more convention addresses. Outlines the Democratic National Platform of 1936, Roosevelt’s Syracuse address, results of the 1936 national election, Presidential votes of 1932 and 1936, a study in backgrounds, an article assuring readers “bands are made safe for your money” - obviously an issue much on the minds of Depression-era Americans, a story of Congress, the Supreme Court, overviews of cabinet posts, Civilian Conservation Corps, Federal Housing Administration, Social Security Board, National Archives, Democratic Women in Politics, and much, much more. A fantastic example of Depression-era politics and a resource for historians.

Roosevelt beneath a color image of the White House, limited edition numbered 1592/2500. Brown moiré silk doublures. 384pp, very well illustrated in color and black & white.
