3. Four Presidents: Reagan, Carter, Ford and Nixon Autographs
and Photo, 1981
Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was the
40th President of the United States (1981 – 1989) and the 33rd Governor of
California (1967 – 1975). Born in Illinois, Reagan moved to Hollywood in the
1930s, where he became an actor, President of the Screen Actor's Guild and a
spokesman for General Electric. Reagan was a prominent New Deal Democrat until
switching parties in 1962, becoming a Republican. After delivering his famous
"Time for Choosing" speech, he was persuaded to seek the California
Governorship, which he won in 1966 and again in 1970. Defeated for the
Republican presidential nomination in 1968 and 1976, he won the nomination, as
well as the election, in 1980.
James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. (born October 1,
1924(1924-10-01)), was the thirty-ninth President of the United States from 1977
to 1981, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Prior to becoming
president, Carter served two terms in the Georgia Senate, and was the 76th
Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.
Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. (July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006)
was the 38th President of the United States (1974–1977), and is, to date, the
only person to occupy that office who had been elected neither to the presidency
nor the vice-presidency. Ford was the first person appointed to the vice
presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, and, after serving as the 40th
Vice President (1973–1974) of the United States for less than a year, became
President upon Richard Nixon’s resignation. Prior to 1973, he served for over
eight years as the Republican Minority Leader of the House of Representatives;
he was first elected to Congress in 1948 from Michigan's 5th congressional
district.
Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913 – April 22, 1994) was
the thirty-seventh President of the United States, and was the only US President
to resign the office. Elected twice to the presidency, he served from 1969 to
1974. He was also the thirty-sixth Vice President of the United States, serving
in the administration of Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953–1961). During the Second
World War, he served as a Navy lieutenant commander in the Pacific, before being
elected to the Congress, and later serving as Vice President. After an
unsuccessful presidential run in 1960, Nixon was elected in 1968.
Remarkable full color photo featuring Presidents Reagan, Carter, Ford and Nixon
sharing a toast. The four had gathered at the White House in October 1981 after
being appointed Reagan’s representatives for the funeral of assassinated
Egyptian leader, Anwar el-Sadat. Autographed on the matte, directly under each
man’s image. Professionally framed.
